almost a year later.....

It is hard to believe that it has almost been a year since Nathan and I got married! It seems like it was just yesterday that his sister Aubrey got married at Ocean Isle Beach one month before us and they just celebrated their 1st anniversary. This year for our first anniversary we are going back to Cabo San Lucas where we went on our honeymoon. I am so excited to go again and relive all of the fun we had. This trip will be especially fun because some of our closest friends are making the trek to with us to Mexico.

Catching up on my reading....

In high school and college I hated reading. There were occasional books that I enjoyed but never one that really stuck with me. Finally I picked up a book one day and decided that I was going to read it for myself, not for a grade, but for fun. I realized that once I started reading I couldn't stop. I get into a book and feel like I actually get to know the characters and their lives. I am not into the "Twilight" series, or anything of that nature, but instead I pick up a book, read the back cover and either buy it or put it back. I have read some very interesting books and I figured I would share my thoughts....

My sister bought me this book for Christmas & it took me awhile to start reading it. I wasn't sure about reading a book about being a newlywed but once I started getting into it I really enjoyed it and connected with it. It was neat to see someone else's point of view on married life opposed to being single. I really enjoyed it and once I muster up the nerve I am going to read Emily Giffin's other book about having babies...ahhh

"Walking in Circles before Lying Down" is a great book for anyone that has a dog & knows what it is like to sometimes feel like they are human. I always talk to my dogs, but in this book they actually talk back. Merrill Markoe brings the friendship between humans and dogs to life all while talking about relationships, jobs, and family. This book was a really easy read & I would recommend it to anyone.

"Hungry Woman in Paris" is the book that I am cutrrently reading. I bought it at target because it was on sale, I have to say that it is one of the best purchases I have made in a while. The beginning of this book is super hilarious and witty, but the meat of the book is much more serious. I can't wait to see what happens to the main character Canela once she finishes cooking school in France!

Cinderella is proof that a new pair of shoes can change your life....

At least once a week I browse the Nordstrom website to look at the newest shoes, and the latest sale stuff. I could possibly be addicted. I ran across two new pairs of peep toes that I would love to have.

This pair is the Via Spiga 'Quinn' pump. It is a satin wrapped shoe with a leather insole. It also comes in graphite and black. I personally like this color.

Another pair of peep toes I found were made by frye boots. I have two pair of Frye shoes at home that I love and I think that these shoes might be the next addition to my closet.

This is the 'Ayda' pump and it also comes in coral and black. I think I'll stick with the lemon!

My best friend....

I want to share a little bit about the people in my life that inspire me.

I have known Stephanie Graham since 6th grade, which was a long time ago. We have been through so much together. Birthday parties, first kisses, proms, and broken hearts. More than once I have cried on her shoulder and she has cried on mine. I watched her dad David battle Lukemia, and win the fight while we were in highschool. Seeing how she and her family handled it will always be an inspiration to me. We both lost a best friend in a car accident our first year of college and we both keep him in our heart, and try to keep our memories of him alive. Although we have seen the bad we have also seen the good! I remember when Stephanie got her license and we spent all day driving around with no where to go. That was just the beginning of our many roadtrips together. In October Stephanie was my maid of honor in my wedding and I am just wondering when she is going to return the favor. She has the kindest heart, is a great listener, a little stubborn at times but I love her.

This is a picture of Stephanie that I love.

If I went to the Oscars....

I really don't care too much about the actual awards at the Oscars but I do like to see what everyone was wearing. Penelope Cruz was my favorite by far. It was simple, but elegant. I liked the detail in the dress and the color. This would be my pick if I was going to the Oscars. It actually looks a lot like my wedding dress...now that I think about it.

garden baby

I was looking through some old pictures and found one of my niece Kyrsten in our garden a few summers ago. We would go through the garden and pick ripe vegtables and pull weeds. It is one of my favorite things to do in the summer and I am so glad I am passing it on to Kyrsten.

She loved to get in the water bucket and cool off. Summers in Gold Hill go great with gardens and waterhoses.

Let me introduce myself...

I live in the small town of Gold Hill, NC where pecans are plentiful and fashion is hard to find. I have a wonderful husband named Nathan, who is also my best friend. We have two dogs Mollie and Pogy who might as well be our children. We are very close to our families and we are always surrounded by our friends. Our life is simple, and some would even say boring, but I am where I want to be, and hope that you find some inspiration in my day to day.
